I am recruiting an Architect Manager to lead and develop the Architectural Design team of an award winning Designer and Builder of bespoke Oak Framed Homes, based in Hereford.

Package: Up to £50,000 + benefits including company profit share, pension, income protection benefit, 28 days holiday.

You will be highly commercially astute and an exceptional team manager. You may be a Senior Architect but equally you may be a Surveyor, Construction Manager, Project Manager or similar and have a good understanding of Architectural Design and Construction.

As a pivotal member of the Senior Management team the Architect Manager will contribute to company strategy and reporting to the General Manager and Managing Director will be responsible for the expansion and profitability of the Architectural Design department, the fastest growing department in the business, as well as taking responsibility for developing high-end Building Partnerships on a national basis.

Principal duties:

- To create and manage an in house architectural design team that is second to none. To develop this team to have flare and a commercial eye and consistently deliver an exceptional customer experience in the design of bespoke oak framed houses of all general.
- To work in conjunction with the sales and marketing department to further develop the design brand and corporate identity and educate the design team on communicating this to clients.
- To work with designers and clients to maximise on the potential of every building and design opportunity creating the highest quality of design possible.
- To efficiently and calmly manage, direct and motivate the design team (both in-house and remote workers) under pressure to achieve all deadlines.
- To create a budget and detailed business plan, maximising revenue and profit, and prepare and present detailed financial reports at board level.
- To develop Business partnerships with high quality Building companies on a national basis.

Team management and development:

- Managing and leading the existing team you will be a motivational line manager with exceptional communication skills and the ability to supervise, delegate, support, mentor, encourage and develop your team.
- Building your team to meet the growing needs of the business including recruiting Junior Designers, implementing training schemes for Designers as well as overseeing staff productivity and conducting appraisals and reviews.

Financial management:

- Commercially accountable for department. Responsible for production of budgets, financial reports and accurate forecasts (turnover and profit ) and coordinating all departmental finances including cash flow, debtors, expenses, bonus schemes etc.
- Monitoring and managing productivity.
- Reporting sales and profitability at board level - attending monthly and quarterly meetings to review work performed, work in progress, achievement to target, forecasts and business trends.

Business management:

- Overseeing the Architectural Design Department you will coordinate all operations and work schedules within the department and demonstrate the vision and pro-activity to implement new processes and procedures to enhance the business performance.
- Review the design contract, streamline and standardise design systems and develop a portfolio of standard designs, further developing an architectural offering that is second to none and is the market leader in oak frame design.
- Working with the Sales and Marketing department further develop the sales system (concept, target market, route to market, sales process etc) to generate and secure the maximum amount of quality design work.
- Assisting the MD in negotiations, establishing and developing projects and contract analysis (demonstrating the ability to grasp legal and financial complexities).
- Working with the MD to identify critical pathways and contribute to company operation and direction.
- Partnership building - develop high quality partnerships with Building Companies on a national basis to maximise service levels and profits generated from both the design and build solution.

Sector knowledge:

You will have a good understanding of the design and construction industry (preferably Domestic Construction, ideally high-end residential) including Architectural Drawings and Design, Building Regulations, Structural/Technical/Engineering issues, Project Management, Contract Management, Quantity Surveying, Site Surveying/Inspections. Ideally (but not essential) a keen interest in and understanding of Green Oak Timber framing.

Team management:

You will have a successful track record of staff management and team development - supervising, motivating, developing and expanding a team.

Financial and Business Management: A proven track record of financial management (including budgeting, forecasting, responsibility for turnover and profit and financial reporting) as well as sales outlook and a well developed commercial awareness.

Technical skills:

IT Literacy – sufficient understanding of IT to offer the most advanced and aesthetically pleasing architectural package possible and the ability to build and use complex spreadsheets for managing programmes and schedules. A RIBA qualification and knowledge of AutoCAD are preferable but not essential.

Personal attributes:

You will possess a high degree of professional gravitas, demonstrating integrity and sincerity to both customers and internal staff. You will be a motivational team leader and a positive team player, unflappable under pressure, with a proactive, commercially focused approach.

Designer position in our New York office.

Experience required:

- A professional architectural degree is required.
- Strong design talent.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of professional experience.
- Experience in performing arts projects desirable.
- Responsible for technical design aspects of an assigned project including investigation, evaluation, and recommendation of design solutions.
- Strong ability to develop and articulate design concepts in a collaborative environment.
- Ability to work within a team structure.
- Experience in providing architectural consultation in the planning, design and coordination of projects.
- Experience in decision making on design problems and methods.
- Experience in executing tasks requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures.
- Strong skills in Revit, Rhino and Adobe Creative Suite is required. Experience with AutoCAD, Parametric Modeling [Grasshopper] and Maya is desirable.
- Computer rendering experience with VRay is desirable.
- Experience with modeling tools such as 3D printers and laser cutters is preferred.
- Good interpersonal and communications capabilities.
- Strong, positive references.
