Henrybuilt is seeking an experienced residential designer to become a core team member in our New York studio. This position requires an exceptional ability to work with clients and other architects to create a combination of aesthetic refinement and function in the most important areas in the home.
This is a unique opportunity for a skilled and experienced designer who demonstrates:
- Solid experience completing residential work of very high quality, working directly with homeowners as well as other architects – particularly in a dense urban setting like New York City.
- An interest in specializing in interior architecture.
- Interest in working with a sophisticated system of products that are customizable, and working within a company that is continually improving the quality of those products and the way they come together. System-based products are changing the residential building industry.
- An interest and some experience with an industrial design approach to developing products and assemblies that are superior to their custom designed and fabricated counterparts.
- Ability and interest in having multiple active projects at all times. This presents many more opportunities to move through all of the cycles of design, honing both your design skills and your client relationship skills – than a traditional architectural practice.
- Interest in working as a key team member in a company that is building an international premium brand. Working in a company that designs and manufactures its own product provides the opportunity to experience design from a different perspective, and gain business skills beyond those that apply to a practice focused only on providing a professional service.
Minimum requirements:
- BA or Master’s degree in Architecture from a highly regarded program.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in an interior-focused architectural practice.
- Working knowledge of residential construction detailing, materials, methods and codes.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines without compromising quality.
- Demonstrated knowledge of interior design and construction.
- Additional industrial design experience or education is highly valued.
- Outstanding communication and presentation skills.
- High level of proficiency in AutoCAD and Sketchup as well as drawing by hand – and with production of drawing sets. Experience with Revit is a plus.
- Digital Residential Portfolio, focused on representing residential scaled projects and including photo documentation of completed work.
