Project Architect / Designer

Samsel Architects is an established 12-person, design-focused firm located in downtown Asheville, NC. Recently honored with the AIA NC Firm of the Year Award, our portfolio includes custom residential, hospitality and commercial projects. The firm's design approach demonstrates an evolving contemporary design aesthetic. We are committed to green building and sustainable design is core value of every project.

We are currently looking for a full-time Project Architect (or Designer) to join our collaborative studio environment. The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 4-10 years professional work experience. Qualifications include:

- Proficiency in BIM CAD software (ArchiCAD preferred, Version 18 or later).
- Knowledge and experience in creating construction documents.
- Understanding of wood-frame construction assemblies and details.
- Proficiency in Photoshop/Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office programs.
- A strong work ethic with demonstrated organizational and time-management techniques.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work in a collaborative/team environment.
- Actively contributes to group dialogues and team conversations.
- Demonstrates leadership potential.
- Ability to perform assigned tasks efficiently and within given timelines.
- Proven experience listening to clients, anticipating client needs, and meeting project objectives.
- A professional architecture degree from an accredited college/university is required.
- Leed ap a bonus.

Landscape Architect / Designer

We are looking for a creative, inquisitive, and motivated Landscape Architect or Landscape Designer with a dedication to idea-driven work and to working in a studio atmosphere. You must possess strong conceptual and detailed design skills and have a grounding in construction drawings and contract administration. We like to work with well-read, articulate, engaged individuals who have the ability to organize their thoughts and work, and the ability to speak and write clearly in English.

You would be expected to work closely with both the architecture and landscape architecture teams and would be responsible for managing projects, design, research, preparation of technical drawings, budget and schedule management, client presentations and meetings. Projects will primarily include public landscapes, public realm and urban infrastructure, research and experimentation, exhibition work, and custom private commissions. The candidate is required as soon as possible.

PLANT Architect Inc. is an award-winning practice that branches into the domains of architecture, landscape, and design. Our studio operates across spatial scales and disciplinary borders to reveal a site’s potential, distil client-needs into a clear design vision, and create timeless spaces that heighten one’s experience of a site, city, or natural landscape.

The studio was founded in 1997 by partners Lisa Rapoport, Chris Pommer, and Mary Tremain. PLANT is based in Toronto and comprises both architects and landscape architects. Our areas of specialization include residential and institutional architecture and landscape architecture, interiors, urban infrastructure, feasibility studies, and master planning. We also offer a broad range of value-added services that include furniture and lighting design, public facilitation, and integrated graphics.

Qualifications:

- Demonstrated excellence in design. Ability to communicate design ideas and direction quickly.
- Enthusiastic about landscape architecture, architecture, and design.
- Strong project management and organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple, concurrent projects in various stages of development.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a studio environment.
- 5+ years professional office experience including coordinating and working on the design of large and medium-scale projects such as urban squares and parks, public realm projects.
- Familiarity with urban landscape projects.
- Knowledge of local arboriculture and horticulture.
- Demonstrated technical skills in preparing technical working drawings for both hardscape and soft-scape elements (grading and layout plans, material plans, planting plans, construction details).
- High level of graphic communication skills.
- High level of freehand and rendering skills, and be capable of using 2D/3D software, including AutoCAD, Sketch up, PhotoShop, In-Design, Illustrator, and PowerPoint. Knowledge of VECTORWORKS would be ideal.
- MLA or foreign equivalent.
- Ability and interest to become an OALA Full Member.
- Resident of Canada or ability to obtain a work permit for a period of more than 1 year.
