Junior Architect

ReThink Studio is seeking a Junior Architect with strong design and drafting skills to develop drawings and presentation material for our urban transit proposals. Ideal candidates are talented designers with previous drafting experience, a strong graphic sensibility, and a basic understanding of Adobe After Effects. Strong visual skills, self-motivation, critical thinking skills, and a desire and ability to learn quickly are essential. Preference will be given to applicants with a strong technical understanding of urban systems and standard means of representation, as well as the ability to present complex ideas in a clear and articulate manner.

What will you do?

- Efficiently draw, design and develop transit proposals at multiple scales.
- Distill complex and abstract concepts into clear and well-illustrated drawings and narratives.
- Draft and edit technical and representational drawings, diagrams, and images.
- Work with a team to produce and edit animations.
- Assemble research, drawings, design materials into cohesive presentation.
- Work with team members to construct descriptive narratives of proposals and supporting presentation materials.

Qualifications:

- 1-2 years experience working in a related role preferred B.Arch., M.Arch., or equivalent.
- Fluency in AutoCAD, Adobe CC (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop), GIS.
- Knowledge of Adobe After Effects preferred.
- Interest in and technical understanding of urban transit systems (rail, bus, metro, etc.).
- Strong graphic sensibility with regards to the visualization of data, maps, and diagrams.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize and multi-task.

A position offering huge potential for career progression within a progressive and forward thinking Architectural firm with a well-established international presence to work on retail projects across the UK.

Established over 100 years ago and based in Guildford, my client operates across a diverse spectrum of design-led project sectors, including residential, retail, education, healthcare, leisure, workplace projects ranging from individual, bespoke homes and interiors, to multi-million-pound master planning schemes. The Guildford office specialises in retail, and has successfully completed retail projects across the nation for new stores, store rationalisations and office fit out projects with project sizes up to 50,000sqft.

Having recently taken on a number of new projects and with a significant pipeline confirmed, they are now looking to recruit a Retail Architect to take a leading role in both the architectural delivery as a project runner for retail fit out projects and development of the practice.

Role & Responsibilities

- Manage projects from an office base with attendance to site or client meetings within the UK.
- You will be meeting with client consultants, developers and contractors to review and report on the design process and to lead the design.
- You will be undertaking written site visit reports and drafting the fit out model either individually or with others and should be able to publish and manage documents to a high standard.
- You will be required to check consultants' drawings.

Required skills & experience

- Part III qualification or equivalent.
- Previous experience working on retail projects and a good understanding of retail fit out construction.
- Experience leading projects through all RIBA stages (1-7).
- Understand retail brands and the interpretation of design guides.
- Literate in AutoCAD and Revit/ BIM would be an advantage.
- Clean Drivers licence.

Salary & Package

The successful applicant will be offered a salary of up to £37,000 in line with their experience and a number of benefits which will include:

- Subscriptions to Professional Bodies (on completion of probationary period).
- Business travel expenses (where applicable).
- 20 days holiday plus a half a day holiday to use every month. You will also be given 3 days which must be taken at Christmas + bank holidays (Annual leave entitlement increases with continuous employment).
- Sick Pay (after 3 months service).
- Group Personal Pension Plan.
- Salary assessment every 6 months.
- Annual reviews.

Working from the firm's Guildford office, you'll be based a couple of minutes from the local train station which is a short walk away. There are local transport links with a number of Bus stops outside of the office, which is also just a short walk to Guildford's shopping centre.
