Architect

14/02/2017
Thread is a specialist architecture practice working exclusively on complex heritage projects, seeking a Conservation Architect to join our creative team. Our work comprises architectural, cultural and research projects in historic contexts, including new build work within heritage sites. The practice is shortly to relocate to a new custom built studio with a workshop / design lab space that will allow us to investigate and immerse ourselves further in the messiness and challenging complexity of working in the conservation arena.

We are looking for new architects to work with our existing team and to operate independently as a project architect carrying out high quality design and conservation projects. Qualified Conservation architects and those with a depth of conservation experience will be preferred, although we are willing to consider applicants who are able to demonstrate a passion for the knotty problem-solving involved in working in difficult situations.

Thread will also support candidates in pursuing research projects in the construction arena and experimental design.

Successful candidates will need to be good designers, have excellent technical knowledge and skill, and be able to manage projects from conception to completion. We would like to see hand drawings and evidence of using your hands to make.

The practice is located on the border of Somerset and Devon, 5 minutes from Junction 26 of the M5. Ability and willingness to travel is essential: the role will involve travel to sites and other locations.

We are happy to consider flexible and part-time working hours.
