RAFT is seeking qualified Interior Designers to lead the design and FF&E scope of active, contracted work on multiple high end hospitality interiors. Must have a minimum 7 years of experience – 5 of which must be in a leadership role for the design, sourcing and documentation of high-end interior fit-outs.
Qualifications:
- 5-7 years minimum leading the design and FF&E of high-end interior fit-outs.
- Strong conceptual approach to the design of spaces, beyond aesthetics.
- Experience designing custom surfaces, millwork, furnishings and lighting.
- Strong background in hospitality, membership clubs and multi-family residential (larger work).
- Significant product sourcing experience; procurement experience is a plus.
- Background in architecture, or specialization of interior design within architecture practices.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare feasibility / concept proposals.
- Prepare drawings and specifications.
- Prepare tender applications and applications for planning and building departments.
- Analyze project costs.
- Design spaces to incorporate environmentally friendly building practices.
- Integrate engineering elements into architecture designs

- Analyze cost-benefit ratios.
- Conduct life-cycle costing.
- Assess budget variances.
- Devise procurement strategies.
- Manage building data with 3D modeling software.
- ensure compliance with building and code regulations.
- Use computer-aided design software & AutoCAD.

Nicholas Melone, principal of Melone Architects, is a licensed architect with extensive experience in historic preservation projects. Nick has performed architectural surveys, inspections, and restoration projects on over 200 historic structures throughout the New York metropolitan area. Project types include cooperative apartment buildings, museums, churches, brownstones, and commercial institutions.
Along with his numerous restoration projects, Nick has had experience in a wide range of architectural design projects throughout the northeast, including new multiple family dwellings, single family homes, commercial structures, personal care facilities, and retail centers. Through restoration projects, Nick has gained knowledge of the ways in which building components deteriorate and fail; all new construction projects are approached with these lessons in mind.
We are in search of a junior architect to assist a small renovation/restoration firm in New York with the following:
- Measuring and drafting of existing buildings in New York City.
- Drafting of details, not limited to parapets, walls, and waterproofing.
- Conducting occasional site evaluations.
- General office assistance.
