International architectural/interior design firm has an immediate need for a talented interior designer. We are specifically seeking a candidate who has interior design experience with high-end modern hospitality, shopping center, and / or retail projects.

Job summary: Candidate will assist and manage multiple design teams in a self-directed manner in all aspects of the interior design process within an established budget, schedule, site and programmatic requirements. Provide structural and effective leadership to maintain a positive work environment while serving as a primary point of contact with clients, senior management and the teams.

Responsiblities (include but are not limited to the following):

- Assist senior management in leading the design studio and providing comprehensive project management.
- Report directly to senior management and contribute to the general direction of the firm.
- Planning, design and documentation of interior design concepts for high-end hospitality and shopping center projects.
- Prepare and manage for quality control for schematic design, design development, construction documents and FF&E specification phases.
- Create design presentation books that include projects' design ideas, philosophy, contextual backgrounds and spatial relations.
- Lead and conduct quality control measures in the development of FF&E specifications, budgets, documentation and material boards by project teams.
- Review design drawings including elevations, sections, details and schedules for technical accuracy and completeness.
- Perform shop drawings and submittals reviews.
- Use knowledge of architectural details, materials & finishes (including cost knowledge) in proposed design.
- Advise design group on interior design factors such as space planning, layout and utilization of furnishings and equipment, material selections, color schemes, and color coordination.
- Leed ap or good understanding of Sustainable Design is preferred.

Background & qualification:

- Candidate must possess a highly refined modern design aesthetic, be passionate and updated with current interior design trends, finishes, and materials. You should have a strong portfolio of projects that demonstrate your impeccable sense of style and interior design.
- Professional degree(s) in architecture or interior design with a minimum 5 years of experience.
- Shopping center or hospitality (i.e., hotels) interior design experience preferred.
- Strong visual presentation skills including perspective sketching, graphic design and rendering (hand & computer generated).
- Understand conventional construction methods and techniques and how to document them appropriately.
- Experienced in all phases and aspects of the design process including predesign, design documentation, FF&E specifications, construction administration and procurement.
- Proficient in the use of SketchUp, Photoshop, Illustrator, In Design, & AutoCAD.
- Ability to do or direct high quality renderings of proposed designs. - Excellent understanding of retail design & merchandising trends.
- Must be highly organized, goal oriented & able to work within a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to influence, motivate and support a diverse team.
- Work consistently with a professional demeanor and excellent work ethic.

Zimmerman Workshop Architecture + Design is a boutique firm with a growing portfolio including some exciting new projects on the boards. Members of our team have worked at offices such KPF, Gensler and Renzo Piano Building Workshop, and we’re modestly molding our company to reflect what we think are the best of all our experiences. We’re looking for a talented individual who can do it all and prefers the small office environment.

Our office places design first. Problem solving, thinking on your toes, and “figuring-it-out” are mandatory. We encourage design through models (both physical and computer), sketching, brainstorming, and research. You will be exposed to all aspects of architecture and expected to be well rounded and excited to work on projects from schematic design to construction administration.
