Ideal for a talented and motivated individual in a creative environment with the opportunity to grow into the management team. Experience in residential, cultural/commercial projects is an advantage. The team is flexible and the post is full time for a qualified architect, ARB/RIBA.
Desired skills:
- Excellent design understanding.
- Proficient in Microstation and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop in Particular).
- Excellent written and spoken English is essential.
- Experience with detailing and specifications.
- Confidence in working independently.
- Willingness to take on responsibility and develop new skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with the team.
- Excellent organisational skills.
- Preferably UK construction site experience.
Initial outputs will be:
- Develop design from pre-planning sketches.
- Develop design according to building control regulations.
- Liaise with other consultants and contractors.
- Detail and coordinate packages.
- Undertake site inspections.

The firm began as Architect of Record for three seminal projects, completing these award-winning designs with the associated design architects — the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco (with Fumihiko Maki), Mexican Museum (with Ricardo Legorreta), and the Sam Fox School for Visual Arts and Design for Washington University in St. Louis (with Fumihiko Maki).

- Focus on quality in all aspects of the work, from initial presentations through design, documentation, and delivery of architectural services.
- Ability to design with imagination and manage to achieve constructibility.
- Ability to represent the firm with clients and the public, building on meetings and other communications to develop and enrich relationships.
- Commitment to grow into a leadership role at SKA.
- Interest and desire to work with other team members to create opportunities for continuous learning and professional growth.
- Personal characteristics that include being a fundamentally nice person who is intelligent, collaborative, and articulate, with good judgment about people and situations.
Prerequisites:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Architecture.
- Architectural license in California.
- At least 10 years of working experience, with a portfolio that demonstrates design ability as well as technical knowledge.
- Highly professional, with excellent communication skills, including fluency in English (oral and written).
- Experience with CAD and Revit (preferred) as well as other digital technology (Adobe Creative Suite, Sketchup, 3D visualization) and management tools (MS Office, Google Apps).
- In order to be considered for employment, applicants must be currently eligible to work in the United States and should be able to travel within the USA.
Bonus points:
- Experience with LEED design (and LEED-certified projects).
- NCARB certification.
- Experience with civic and institutional projects.
- Articulate and charismatic in presentations.
- Proactive in approach to both project and internal management.
- Experience with Deltek/Ajera or other CRM/management programs.
